Leaving the obligatory prayer on the wedding night

Reference: Silsilah Fataawa Noor ‘alad-Darb – Tape 4

Question: What is the ruling regarding the one who left the maghrib prayer on the night of the wedding, and she then made it up at another time?

Response: That is not permissible. It is obligatory upon [both] the [man and] woman to pray the maghrib as well as the ‘ishaa [prayers], because [in the question] she [only] asked about the maghrib prayer, whereas the ‘ishaa prayer is more closer [to being eligible] to be left – yet it is obligatory upon her to pray both the maghrib and the ‘ishaa prayers. And it is not permissible for her to delay it beyond their [legislated] times because this is inconsistent with being grateful to Allaah ‘Azza wa Jall for the blessing of marriage he has bestowed upon her.

So it is obligatory she upholds that which Allaah has obligated upon her from the obligatory acts, and [in doing so] she will not miss anything from [the activities of] the marriage [ceremony] – for which she intended [to leave the prayer].
