The difference between ‘prohibited’ and ‘not permissible’

Reference: Sharh ‘Umdatil-Fiqh – Tape No.4, Question No.23

Question: Is there a difference between the saying of the scholars ‘this is prohibited ( حرام )’ or ‘this is not permissible’ ( لا يجوز )?

Response: That which is ‘prohibited’ is ‘not permissible’. The phrase ‘not permissible’ is equivalent to ‘prohibited’.
