Abu Daawood رحمه الله said:

I met 200 scholars of knowledge, and I have not seen anyone like Ahmad ibn Hanbal.

He would not delve into anything like what the people delve into.

So when [anything related to] knowledge was mentioned, [it was] then [that] he would speak.
