Shaykh Ibraaheem al-Muhaymeed said:
The third matter concerning supplication: [is] praying for [one’s] children.
Strive – O servant of Allaah – in making du’aa for [your] children: In sujood (prostration), between the adhaan and the iqaamah, when it is raining, [and] when travelling.
Strive to pray for them to adhere to uprightness (istiqaamah), obedience [to Allaah], and to abandon sins; increase in [making du’aa for them].
[Most importantly], guide your children to goodness, and after guiding them to goodness, seek assistance for them with the weapon of du’aa.
Even if, after all this, deviation occurs, [then at least] you have done what was required of you; [so] you guided them to all goodness, and warned them against all evil, and then made du’aa for them.
So, if Allaah has decreed and deviation occurs to one of your children, do not become angry. This is Allaah’s divine decree (Qadr).
[Know that] Nooh’s son was a disbeliever, and Ibraaheem’s father was [also] a disbeliever.
[So long as] you [have] strived and made du’aa for them, and after that,
«the veins are moistened and the reward is confirmed» – Abu Daawood no.2357; ad-Daaraqutnee no.25. Ibn Hajar said in at-Talkhees al-Habeer, v2 p202: ad-Daaraqutnee said its chain of transmission is authentic. The reward is confirmed for you thereafter [for all that you strived in nurturing your children upon goodness, in shaa.-Allaah].
