How should I begin seeking knowledge?
He has a desire to understand matters of the religion, tajweed and tafseer - and wants [some] guidance; so do you advise him with any particular books [to start with]?

al-Qaadhee Husayn رحمه الله narrates regarding al-Qaffaal رحمه الله - his teacher, that many-a-time he would become tearful whilst teaching; he would then raise his head and say

Out of respect for him
