The Shaykh disliked attention
As is known to many Muslims, the Shaykh disliked attention as well as titles and positions of importance.
He would only sleep a little at night
al-Haafiz ‘Abdul-Ghanee was coming to visit me in Asfahaan, and he would only sleep a little at night, instead [choosing to] pray, read and weep.
Praying 2 rak’ahs until the imaam ascended the pulpit
Whenever he entered the masjid on the day of Jumu’ah, he would pray two rak’ahs and continue to repeat them until the imaam ascended the pulpit.
He is a liar
Indeed whoever prays and fasts, but does not leave off sinning, then it is written that he is a liar.
Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays
He was known to fast on Mondays and Thursdays – [and] this was throughout the entire year, unless he was travelling or ill.
I have never lied except on one occasion
I have never lied except on one occasion. My father said to me: ‘Have you read to the teacher?’ And I said: ‘Yes’, whereas I had not read to him.
I have never revised a hadeeth
I have never revised a hadeeth, and nor have I ever had any doubt in [the memorisation of] a hadeeth, except one hadeeth; and when I questioned my colleague about it, [I found] it was [exactly] as I had memorised [it].
I have come to this land to seek knowledge
And their going out (khurooj) – there is no good in any of it – since they do not teach the people anything.

Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a passer by.
