Shaykh Falaah ibn Ismaa’eel al-Mundikaar said:
[As for] the people today, they all want the[ir] leader to be like who? Like ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab or ‘Umar ibn ‘Abdil-‘Azeez.
[So I say to them why don’t] you be like their citizens were, and [then] let the ruler know [about] that!?
[To which they say] ’no! no! we are not prepared to rectify ourselves; we just want the condition of the ruler to change!’
