Delaying the tawaaf al-ifaadhah until the tawaaf al-wadaa’

Question: Is it permissible to delay the tawaaf al-ifaadhah until the tawaaf al-wadaa’ and how about taking a break between the seven circuits [of the tawaaf] to drink some water or other than this?

Response: It is permissible to delay the tawaaf al-ifaadhah until the tawaaf al-wadaa’ for fear of the crowds and that which is similar to this. So, if he performs the tawaaf when he is [due] to leave [Makkah] and makes the intention [for the tawaaf, both] the ifaadhah and wadaa’, then this suffices for the two. He [must] then leave [Makkah] such that he remains true to his last act being the tawaaf around the House (Ka’bah). However, it is better if the tawaaf al-ifaadhah was done on the day of ‘Eed [al-Adhhaa] or the days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th and 13th days of Dhul-Hijjah). However, he is permitted to delay this [as mentioned]. As for the break between the circuits [of the tawaaf], then it is permissible so long as it is for something minor such as re-doing wudhoo., drinking water or performing the obligatory prayer[s] or the funeral prayer and that which is similar to this. However, if the break is half an hour (30 minutes) long or more, then the correct [opinion] is that [the circuits] which have preceded are nullified and it is upon him after the break to resume the tawaaf from the beginning.
