Renting a trading establishment to a bank which deals with ribaa

Reference: Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa.imah lil-Buhooth al-‘Ilmiyyah wal-Iftaa – Fatwa No.4327, Volume 15, Pages 36-37

Question: I own [some] stores located on al-Hijaaz Road, and the National Bank has offered to rent them; [so] since this bank is amongst those banks which deal with ribaa, would it be permissible for me to rent [these stores] to this bank and those like it which deal with ribaa? Please provide us with a fatwa, and may Allaah reward you [well].

Response: That would not be permissible, because the bank in question shall use it as a trading establishment to deal with ribaa – which is prohibited, and renting them out for this purpose would constitute aiding them in that which is prohibited. And [as is known] Allaah Ta’aala has said:

{Help you one another in al-Birr and at-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression}, soorah al-Maa.idah, aayah 2

And with Allaah lies all success and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet ﷺ and his family and his companions.
