Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan said:
So no one should praise himself, saying:
“I am righteous, I am pious, I perform acts of obedience.”Do not praise yourself, for you will inevitably make mistakes.
Mistakes will certainly occur from you, and you are in need of seeking forgiveness no matter how much piety and good deeds you attain, [as Allaah ﷻ says in a hadeeth qudsee:]
«…indeed you make mistakes by night and by day, and I forgive all sins…» – Saheeh Muslim, no.2758.
