Question: If a woman purifies herself after the completion of her menses during the day, is she then required to abstain [from food and drink and all that breaks the fast] for the remainder of the day?

Response: If a woman purifies herself after the completion of her menses or postpartum bleeding during the day, then she is required to abstain [from food and drink and all that breaks the fast] for the remainder of the day and [afterwards] make up [the fast for that day in addition to the missed fasts while she was on her menses] since her abstaining [for the remainder of the day] was out of respect for the sanctity of the month of Ramadhaan.

As for her making up [the missed fasts], then that is because she did not complete the fasting which was for the duration of the whole month, in addition to [the fact that] fasting half a day is not considered as fasting.
