It was said to Haatim al-Asamm, ‘on what have you built your trust and reliance upon Allaah?” He said:
I learned that my sustenance will not be taken by [anyone] other than me, so I am at ease with that; and I learned that my work will not be done by [anyone] other than me, so I keep busy at it; and I learned that death will come suddenly, so I hasten in preparation for it; and I learned that I cannot escape from the Sight of Allaah, so I remain shy of Him.
