Question: I have parents who are both of old age; my father is 75 years old, and my mother is 70. If I were to perform ‘umrah [each – on their behalf] and gifted its reward to them – while they are still alive – will they be rewarded for it?

Response: If you are able to travel with them to Makkah, and help them to travel [to perform ‘umrah] then this is [considered as] honouring them, and is a righteous deed. If, however, they are unable to travel due to old age, or illness, or their inability to perform ‘umrah, then if you were to perform ‘umrah on behalf of your father, and then on behalf of your mother, or on behalf of your mother, and then on behalf of your father, then may Allaah reward you with good.
