Fataawa Noor ‘alad-Darb – Tape No.3

Question: A Muslim living in the West works in a factory where they produce [alcoholic] intoxicants, so what is the legal ruling regarding that? Should he continue with his work or stop?

Response: It is not permissible to work in a factory which produces alcohol. That is because [in doing so] he is [legally considered as] one who is producing the alcohol – assisting in making it available for consumption; it is therefore not permissible for him to remain [working] in this factory, rather, he should seek a permissible job in order for his provision to be halaal and his earning to be good [- free from any prohibition].
