Completed menses whilst on airplane

Reference: Sharh ‘Umdatil-Fiqh – Tape No.7, Question No.17

Question: A woman completes her menses whilst she is travelling in an airplane. [So when she needs to pray], should she suffice with just wudhoo for the prayer?

Response: No, let her wait until the plane lands [and she reaches her destination], where she can have a bath [or shower] and then pray. If she fears the time for prayer will pass whilst she is in the airplane – because it is a long journey, then she can do tayammum with whatever dust she can get her hands on, and then pray. If there is any dust, then she can do tayammum with it and then pray. And if she is unable to find any dust, and the journey is a long one, then she must pray as she is – without having had a bath [or shower], [as Allaah (‘Azzz wa Jall) says:

{So fear Allaah as much as you are able…}, soorah at-Taghaabun, aayah 16
