Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan said:

Earthquakes are increasing [in frequency]. [And] زَلَازِل is the plural of زِلْزَال – and refuge is sought in Allaah [from their harm]. And it is the movement of the earth.

Allaah has made the earth a firm abode, and has anchored it with mountains so that people may live upon its surface[1].

So towards the end of time there will be more disturbance of the earth, [resulting in] earthquakes [that] will destroy many countries – as is the reality now, and as you [watch and] hear about these earthquakes in which many people and many countries are destroyed.

And these are punishments that Allaah has brought upon His servants when they become corrupt towards the end of time, Allaah brings upon them punishments.

So they are a punishment from one perspective, and a reminder from another.

A reminder to the people of eemaan to wake up and [turn in] repentance to Allaah (’Azza wa Jall).

And it is not to be said that these [earthquakes] are a natural phenomena as the pedantic and ignorant say; natural phenomena do not indicate anything, they do not indicate anything.

[You hear them say] “rather, they are a natural phenomena which occur”, [to which we say] “no they are not [merely] natural phenomena.”

[If that were the case, then] why did these natural phenomena not occur [at this frequency] in the past?

[They occur more frequently now] as a [means] for the rectification of the people [from mischief and corruption], and to make them upright [in their obedience to Allaah].

Indeed they are occurring [more frequently] towards the end of time [as] a warning, [and as] an admonishment for the people to take heed of them [and rectify themselves before it is too late].

Yes.
