Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:

On the authority of ‘Aa.ishah (radhi-yAllaahu ‘anhaa) who said:

«I did not see the Prophet ﷺ complete an entire month of fasting except for Ramadhaan, and I did not see him complete more [voluntary] fasts than in the month of Sha’baan, as he would fast [the entire month] except for a little.»
[Baaqee Musnad al-Ansaar – no.24860, al-Muwatta – no.601]

Therefore, it is befitting for a person to fast a lot during [the month of] Sha’baan, following the example of the Messenger of Allaah , and in anticipation of the reward from Allaah (’Azza wa Jall), for indeed Allaah says:

{Indeed, in the Messenger of Allaah you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allaah and the Last Day, and remembers Allaah often.}
[soorah al-Ahzaab, aayah 21]
