The correct manner of seeking knowledge

Reference: al-Fataawa al-Jaliyyah ‘anil-Manaahij ad-Da’wiyyah – Question No.46

Question: Noble Shaykh – may Allaah protect and preserve you – I have a desire to seek Islaamic knowledge; I hope you can explain [to us] the correct manner of seeking Islaamic knowledge, and [may] Allaah grant you good?

Response: The manner of seeking Islaamic knowledge is clear; It is upon you to seek knowledge from the Salafee Scholars and beware of those from the [differing] movements, those of innovated methodologies. So if you [really] want the advice, then you should not approach them, rather, go to the people of knowledge who teach the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and the correct Salafee ‘aqeedah and start with that which is the most important and then move on to that which is lesser in importance [in order].
