Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan said:

Some of the people do not know [the true value of] Ramadhaan except that it is [for them] to sleep during the day, and be awake at night engaged in idle chat and gossip, as well as watching – in this day and age of ours – watching screens (TV and digital devices) and what is shown on them.

This is a great loss.

[In this manner] the Muslim loses his religion, and loses the [benefit of the] virtues [of Ramadhaan], and loses [the opportunity to earn] a great deal of goodness [in this blessed month] while he is heedless [of the virtues of Ramadhaan], and busy in amusement and play.

Then death comes to him while he is in this state, and there is no might nor power except with Allaah.

A Muslim should preserve his life in obedience to Allaah, and in [seeking] the pleasure of Allaah, [and] preserve [his duty in fulfilling] the obligations of Allaah, [and] do plenty of voluntary prayers, [and] plenty recitation of the Qur.aan, [and] plenty of at-tasbeeh [سبحان الله], and at-tahleel [لا إله إلا الله], and at-takbeer [الله أكبر].
