Reading the Qur.aan in a state of janaabah

Reference: Sharh ‘Umdatil-Fiqh – Tape No.6, Question No.13

Question: Is it prohibited to read the Qur.aan in a state of janaabah (major sexual impurity]?

Response: [For] the one in a state of janaabah? …yes. Nothing would prevent the Prophet ﷺ from reciting the Qur.aan other than when he was in a state of janaabah. There is no doubt in that, and there is [general] consensus [amongst the people of knowledge] that the one who is in a state of janaabah is not permitted to read the Qur.aan – not even a letter, until he has a bath [or shower].
