Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa.imah – v1, p235

Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn Baaz said:

It is not permissible for the Muslim to stand out of respect for any national flag or salute. It is a reprehensible innovation which was not [practised] in the time of the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ, and nor in the time of his successors (radhi-yAllaahu ‘anhum). And this [practise] is contrary to the perfection of tawheed and the sincere devotion to Allaah alone; [instead] it is a means to shirk.
