Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan said:

The academic year has just begun, and parents are eager to send their children to school, to the extent that the father takes his child to school by car, or hires a driver to drop him off at school, or [even] buys him a car so he can get to school.

In terms of this worldly life, he has not deprived him [of anything].

However, has he attached any importance in taking him to the masjid [with him]?

Does he even realise when his son is late in getting to the masjid?

Has he attached any importance to teaching him beneficial lessons of knowledge – whether from himself or from the righteous ones?

Has he attached any importance to taking him to gatherings of knowledge and remembrance?

He is only concerned with taking him to school, and he is keen for him to be successful in his studies.

[Do not misunderstand what I am saying], this is good; there is no blame or reproach in that. However, he should not restrict himself to this when there is something which is more important and more compelling [for him], and that is to take him to the masjid and lessons of knowledge.

He must protect him from bad companions.

Evil thoughts and ideologies are spread all around you; drugs and intoxicants are distributed openly and in secret.

So where are you in [your responsibility to] your children and your country?

Your country is being destroyed in terms of morality, religion and ideology – and you are [merely] observing or passing your responsibility to others?!
