Gifting the reward of reading the Qur.aan to the deceased

Question: Is it permissible to read a soorah from the Qur.aan with the intention that its reward be [destined] for the deceased? And how would that be?

Response: There is nothing from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ which suggests the permissibility of gifting the reward of reading the Qur.aan to the deceased; such as those who read [soorah] al-Faatihah upon the soul of the deceased – then there is no origin for this.

You should read the Qur.aan, then supplicate to Allaah for yourself and for your [deceased] Muslim brother.

As for gifting the reward of reading [the Qur.aan to the deceased], then there is no evidence to suggest the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ did this.
