إذا نوى الإنسان أنه يطلب #العلم وهو يريد أن ينفع الناس بعلمه ويذب عن سنة الرسول ﷺ وينشر دين الله في الأرض ثم لم يقدر له ذلك بأن مات مثلاً وهو في طلبه فإنه يكتب له أجر ما نواه وسعى إليه.

Sharh al-‘Aqeedah al-Waasitiyyah – v2, p148
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:
If a person makes the intention to seek knowledge, and he intends [by doing so] to benefit the people with his knowledge and defend the Sunnah of the Messenger ﷺ and propagate the religion of Allaah, and [if] he is then unable to do that because – for example he has died whilst he was seeking [knowledge], then the reward for what he intended and strived towards will be recorded for him [even though he did not attain his goal].
