Men maintaining long hair, wearing necklaces & bracelets

Reference: Majallah ad-Da’wah – Q1, 23 Shawwaal 1428

Question: There has spread amongst the youth a dangerous trend, that being the growing of their hair long based upon the hadeeth of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) who used to grow his hair long, and [also] the wearing of necklaces (neck chains) and bracelets (wrist chains) and trousers; So do you have any words of advice for them?

Response: If his intention behind the growing of his hair long is to follow the example of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), then it is imperative that he return to the ahaadeeth which mention this and the statements of the people of knowledge and [appropriately] do with his hair that which the Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) did so as to attain the correct [understanding and] following.

As for the men wearing necklaces and bracelets, then that is impermissible because therein is imitation of the women, and the Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) cursed those men who resemble the women.

As for the men wearing trousers, then [in this regard] he should adhere to the way of the people of his land, and we sincerely advise the men to maintain the characteristics of gentlemen and [the signs of] their manhood and protect themselves from being feminine in appearance and resembling the women and the disbelievers.
