Pills to prevent onset of menses so she can engage in intercourse with her husband

Reference: Sharh ‘Umdatil-Fiqh – Tape No.7, Question No.6

Question: Is it permissible for a woman to take medication to prevent the onset of her menses, so she can engage in intercourse with her husband?

Response: That is permissible for her to do. She is allowed to take [medication] which prevents the onset of menses so that she can fast, or perform tawaaf – that is permissible for her. However, it is imperative that she consults the doctors, because when she takes the medication, it may be harmful to her. If it is not harmful, then there is no harm [in her taking the medication], however, it is preferable that she does not.
