Questioner: What is the ruling…[regarding] the birthday…celebrating the birthday of the Prophet?
Shaykh: Celebrating the birthday of the Prophet is also an innovation.
If it was [something] good, then the companions (radhi-yAllaahu ‘anhum) would have done it; so where are they [who celebrate the birthday of the Prophet when faced] with this? Are they ignorant of this [fact]?
The important thing is, celebrating the birthday of the Prophet is an innovation.
Questioner: They claim they do so out of their love for the Prophet ﷺ.
Shaykh: I understand, they are celebrating Muhammad, his birthday, but I say this is an innovation; [it is] not permissible.
