Shaykh Sa’d ibn Naasir ash-Shathree said:

Many people habituate their child[ren] to keep away from undesirable things by using the word[s] ‘[That’s] shameful; don’t let the people see you [do that]. You’re letting the people see you [do that]’.

[Instead], why do we not habituate your child to be observant of the Lord of Might and Glory, [by saying to him]:

“Will this action please Allaah?”

[So] when you say to your child:

“O my child, will this action which you have done please Allaah?”

“Will it earn you good from the Lord of Might and Glory?”

“Will it be from the means by which you enter Paradise?”

By doing so, are you following [the example of] your Prophet ﷺ?

By merely [asking our children] this [type of] question, we sew in the[ir] hearts [the seeds of] them being observant of the Lord of Might and Glory.
