The prayer for need and memorising the Qur.aan

Question: I have heard about the prayer of need and the prayer for memorising the Qur.aan; So are these two prayers [legislated] or not?

Response: Both of them are not correct (legislated); Neither the prayer of need and nor the prayer for memorising the Qur.aan. That is because it is not possible to establish the likes of these acts of worship except with [authentic] Sharee’ah-based evidence which amounts to [sufficient] proof. And [regarding] these two [prayers] there is no Sharee’ah-based evidence amounting to [sufficient] proof, and based upon this they are not legislated [and are therefore not permissible to do].
