Men maintaining long hair, wearing necklaces and bracelets

Reference: Majallah ad-Da’wah – Q1, 23 Shawwaal 1428

Question: There has spread amongst the youth a dangerous trend, that being the growing of their hair long based upon the hadeeth of the Prophet ﷺ who used to grow his hair long, and [also] the wearing of necklaces (neck chains) and bracelets (wrist chains) and trousers; So do you have any words of advice for them?

Response: If his intention behind the growing of his hair long is to follow the example of the Prophet ﷺ, then it is imperative that he return to the ahaadeeth which mention this and the statements of the people of knowledge and [appropriately] do with his hair that which the Prophet ﷺ did so as to attain the correct [understanding and] following.

As for the men wearing necklaces and bracelets, then that is impermissible because therein is imitation of the women, and the Prophet ﷺ cursed those men who resemble the women.

As for the men wearing trousers, then [in this regard] he should adhere to the way of the people of his land, and we sincerely advise the men to maintain the characteristics of gentlemen and [the signs of] their manhood and protect themselves from being feminine in appearance and resembling the women and the disbelievers.
